Overall: B-
So just checked out “Piece by Piece,” about Pharrell Williams, the animation is amazing, I’ve always liked the lego style movies, plus the music is full of Pharrell’s hits, so that’s an instant win, made me feel nostalgic. But here’s the thing, I left the movie feeling like it was kinda ‘meh’ or Mid as the kids say. the movie shows you highlights of his career, but it doesn’t really dig deep. It’s like they skipped over all the tough stuff and just showed the happy parts.
I wanted to know more about what makes him tick, or struggles if any? What inspired his music? The movie just didn’t really give me those answers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a fun watch, especially if you’re a fan of Pharrell or Lego films. I was just hoping for a bit more ‘reality’. Maybe a “behind the bricks” look at the man behind the music.
Has anyone else seen it? What do you think?

Grades:
Cinematography: B+
The film employs dynamic camera movements and creative framing techniques that effectively utilize the Lego animation style. The use of color and lighting enhances the visual storytelling, creating that unique aesthetic as The Lego Group always does.
Animation: A-
The stop-motion Lego animation is a standout element of the film. The meticulous attention to detail and creative use of Lego bricks bring a unique and playful energy to the visuals. The animation effectively captures the essence of Pharrell's music and artistic vision.
Art: A
The film's art direction is imaginative and visually striking. The Lego world is beautifully crafted, with detailed environments and expressive character designs. The art style effectively blends realism with a playful, childlike sensibility.
Story: C+
While the film covers key moments in Pharrell's life and career, the narrative feels somewhat superficial and lacks depth. The film focuses primarily on his successes, glossing over potential challenges and complexities in his personal and professional journey. The storytelling lacks a strong emotional core and fails to fully explore the deeper motivations and vulnerabilities of Pharrell.
Writing: C
The dialogue is functional but often lacks nuance. The film relies heavily on narration and exposition, which can feel somewhat didactic and detract from the emotional impact of the story. The writing again misses opportunities to delve deeper into Pharrell's creative process and explore the complexities of his personality.
